SCP-9998 Documentation
Item #: SCP-9998
Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-9998 is to be housed in a reinforced containment chamber measuring 20m x 20m x 15m, constructed of heat-resistant titanium-alloy plating. The chamber must be kept under constant surveillance via multiple redundant systems, as SCP-9998 has demonstrated the ability to disable electronic equipment within a 10m radius.

The entryway to SCP-9998’s containment chamber is a triple airlock system equipped with redundant fail-safes, including automated lockdown and chemical incapacitation measures. Personnel are strictly prohibited from entering the chamber unless SCP-9998 has been verified as sedated. Under no circumstances should fewer than 15 armed guards be stationed outside the chamber at all times.

In the event of a containment breach, Protocol Epsilon-9 (“Blind Shepherd”) is to be enacted. Personnel are advised to avoid direct visual contact with SCP-9998’s eyes during engagement, as prolonged observation has been linked to extreme physiological and psychological distress.

Description:
SCP-9998 is a bipedal entity standing approximately 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) tall with eight arachnoid-like appendages extending from its torso. Its round, bulbous central mass is covered in a slick, mottled surface resembling wet granite, emitting a faint iridescent sheen under light.

Prominent features include two disproportionately large eyes that occupy a significant portion of its facial structure. These eyes, measuring approximately 30cm in diameter each, lack pupils or sclera and are instead composed of a translucent, gelatinous substance that refracts light in unpredictable patterns. SCP-9998’s ocular capabilities are believed to extend beyond normal visual spectrums, though testing remains inconclusive due to its extreme hostility.

Protruding from SCP-9998’s face are six tentacle-like appendages, each approximately 1 meter long. These appendages are prehensile, tipped with chitinous barbs, and have been observed to function as sensory organs and offensive weapons.

SCP-9998 demonstrates extraordinary speed, capable of sprinting at velocities exceeding 60 km/h (37 mph) over short distances, despite its bulk. Its agility, combined with its strength, makes it a formidable threat during containment breaches.

Acquisition Report:
SCP-9998 was discovered in ████████ National Forest following reports of unexplained disappearances and mutilated wildlife. Field agents dispatched to investigate located SCP-9998 in a dormant state near a cluster of human remains. Initial containment efforts were disastrous. SCP-9998 regained consciousness during transport and devoured eight agents within 15 seconds, utilizing both its tentacles and mouth, which had previously gone unnoticed due to its facial configuration.

Incident Report 9998-A:
During its initial containment, SCP-9998 was successfully sedated using a mixture of ████████-based compounds. However, upon being moved into its containment cell, it reanimated unexpectedly. The creature displayed behavior indicating acute awareness of its surroundings, moving with predatory intent. Eight personnel, including armed guards and researchers, were killed before containment was reestablished. SCP-9998 exhibited a pattern of striking at the neck and torso with its tentacles, followed by rapid consumption of flesh and internal organs.

The remains of personnel were not recovered, suggesting SCP-9998 consumes its victims entirely. Survivors reported hearing an “audible clicking” emanating from the creature before each attack.

Behavioral Observations:
SCP-9998 displays a predatory nature, appearing to “hunt” individuals even when presented with no immediate threat. Its intelligence level is classified as highly advanced, with evidence suggesting it can anticipate containment strategies and react accordingly.

When not actively hunting or agitated, SCP-9998 has been observed engaging in repetitive behaviors, such as pacing its containment chamber and emitting low-frequency vocalizations. These sounds are theorized to serve as echolocation or communicative attempts.

Attempts to sedate SCP-9998 have been inconsistent, with the entity demonstrating an alarming resistance to chemical agents over time. Researchers theorize its biology adapts rapidly to external stimuli.

Addendum 9998-B:
Psychological Effects of Ocular Contact:
Personnel who have made direct visual contact with SCP-9998’s eyes report immediate symptoms, including nausea, vertigo, and extreme paranoia. Prolonged exposure has resulted in psychological breakdowns, often accompanied by vivid hallucinations of being consumed alive.

Testing indicates that SCP-9998’s eyes emit a form of cognitohazardous light wave that directly impacts the central nervous system. Protective eyewear has proven ineffective, and personnel are advised to avoid eye contact entirely.

Victim Statistics:
Since initial containment, SCP-9998 has been responsible for the deaths of ███ Foundation personnel, excluding civilian casualties during its acquisition. Postmortem examinations of recovered remains suggest the creature’s feeding process is both rapid and thorough, leaving no usable biological material behind.

Addendum 9998-C:
Theoretical Origin:
Current research posits SCP-9998 is either an extraterrestrial entity or an anomalous species previously unknown to humanity. Its physiological structure does not align with any known terrestrial organisms.

Several ancient cave paintings discovered near SCP-9998’s initial capture site depict a figure resembling the entity, suggesting it may have interacted with early human civilizations. Analysis is ongoing, though containment remains the Foundation’s top priority.

Closing Notes:
The sheer physical and psychological threat posed by SCP-9998 makes it one of the most dangerous anomalies currently in containment. Efforts to study its abilities, biology, and potential origins continue, though such attempts have come at great cost.

Personnel assigned to SCP-9998 must adhere to containment protocols without deviation. To underestimate this entity is to invite disaster.
